Graham Profile


Managing Partner: Graham Butler

Graham Butler is co‐founder and managing partner of Avon Growth Management LLC. Prior to Avon, Graham was in the leadership team of the advanced technology group at Nissan Motor Company Limited, based in the Silicon Valley. The group was responsible for autonomous vehicle technology and connected technology and Graham’s responsibilities were project management and innovation strategy for the connected-vehicles team.

Prior to Nissan, Graham was founder and CEO of Intrepid Cycles, a successful specialty handcycle manufacturing company. His responsibilities spanned all aspects of the business including finance, operations, distribution, marketing, and sales. Graham was responsible for building the capabilities of the company and included opening a company-owned manufacturing facility in Brazil. Under his management, the business grew to approximately 25% market share by volume.

Graham received his undergraduate Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Sheffield, England and his MBA from Harvard Business School.



Managing Partner: Calvin Portley

Calvin Portley is the co-founder and managing partner of Avon Growth Management LLC. Calvin brings over 15 years of sales, marketing, operations, and entrepreneurial experience to the management team. Prior to Avon, Calvin led digital marketing and marketing operations for Doctor On Demand’s enterprise business, where he devised and implemented a new sales-and-marketing alignment strategy for a greater thought leadership presence and lead generation, resulting in greater customer lifecycle and funnel management capabilities.

Prior to Doctor On Demand, Calvin also managed channel and product marketing for Beckman Coulter, a division of Danaher Inc., and Johnson & Johnson. Additionally, Calvin worked for many years in sales and sales training for Alcon Laboratories, a division of Novartis, and Kraft Foods. During this time, Calvin distinguished himself winning numerous sales growth and leadership awards.

Calvin graduated with a B.B.A in marketing from the University of Texas, Arlington where he was also an all-Conference track and field athlete, and he earned his MBA from UCLA’s Anderson School of Management
